Lassen Volcanic National Park boasts over 150 miles of marked and unmarked trails for non-motorized winter sports. Ranger-led snowshoe hikes and ski tours are held on Saturdays during the winter.
In the Chester-Lake Almanor Area, the Lassen National Forest also leads various weekday snowshoe tours beginning in January.
An interpretive recreation trail on the west shore of Lake Almanor provides miles of great scenery and easy access. McGowan Lake, Childs Meadow, Warner Valley Road, and the Caribou Wilderness all afford quiet excursions near Chester.
About 15 miles from Chester, near the historic town of Westwood, lies Coppervale Ski Hill. Coppervale has a poma lift, rope tow, half pipe, jumps and rails, freshly groomed slopes and terrain park.
With a Board Shack and Snack Bar, it is the perfect place for a day of family winter fun.
Ski area hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30 - 4:30 pm, $20/day. Weekends and Holidays 9:30 am - 4 pm $25/day. Season, Day and Half Day Passes are available. Children under 6 ski are FREE
Family fun with sledding, Christmas tree cutting and winter festivals and events is the charm of winter in Lake Almanor.
